The
ABA Journal reports a Dallas lawyer filed a lawsuit alleging her law firm had a policy that prohibited male attorneys from being alone with female attorneys. As
another article explains, the law firm's website indicates that they have 33 male attorneys and only five female attorneys. Obviously, the effect of the rule is that women have a much smaller "circle" to interact with than men.
Apparently, the complaint acknowledges that the firm no longer has this rule, but claims there remain lingering effects. The law firm issued a statement denying any allegations of discrimination. I'd be interested in knowing why such a rule was implemented in the first place (assuming there was such a rule).
