PA Unemployment Compensation on School Closures

Pennsylvania has provided a helpful page: School Closures & UC Benefits FAQs. Yes, schools in PA are scheduled to reopen, but will they stay open? I suspect we'll see more than a few closures along the way.

This guidance makes clear that employees who lose their employment (or suffer reduced hours) because a school or childcare provider has closed due to COVID-19 may be eligible for FFCRA paid leave, or Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), but not both. That said, a claimant "can apply for PUA after exhausting the 12 weeks" of FFRCA paid leave.

Can both parents get PUA? Probably not. The claimant must actually be caring for the children. "Generally, you do not need to take such leave if a co-parent, co-guardian, or your usual childcare provider is available to provide the care your child needs."
